Join us each month as we discuss our latest book choice. All women welcome for a relaxed and fun chat. If you haven’t picked up a book for years or if you are an avid reader, this group is for you! Our book choices will be a mixture of much-needed escapism and page-turners where women are centred. We can send you a free kindle/audible version of the book each month. Sign up and join us on Thursday 29th October between 7:30-8:30pm.

The Downstairs Girl by Stacey Lee

About the book

By day, seventeen-year-old Jo Kuan works as a lady’s maid for the cruel daughter of one of the wealthiest men in Atlanta. But by night, Jo moonlights as the pseudonymous author of a newspaper advice column for the genteel Southern lady, “Dear Miss Sweetie.” When her column becomes wildly popular, she uses the power of the pen to address some of society’s ills, but she’s not prepared for the backlash that follows when her column challenges fixed ideas about race and gender. While her opponents clamor to uncover the secret identity of Miss Sweetie, a mysterious letter sets Jo off on a search for her own past and the parents who abandoned her as a baby. But when her efforts put her in the crosshairs of Atlanta’s most notorious criminal, Jo must decide whether she, a girl used to living in the shadows, is ready to step into the light.

11.00am – 12.00pm

SRC has moved online to offer a virtual coffee morning for women to access from the comfort of their own homes. An opportunity to drop in and meet other women for a chat and cuppa! This relaxed and informal group is the perfect chance to regain some normality during this difficult time and seek some solidarity with other survivors. During the first half an hour you can meet one of our friendly SRC staff and other women for a chance to chatter and natter while in the comfort of your own homes! In the second half an hour we offer creative self-care activities led by a specialist from breathing and relaxation to creative writing to arts and crafts. A chance to socialise, and check in with others while enjoying a cup of tea or coffee. Don’t forget the biscuits!!!
